Good Monday Afternoon!
This week's IA: PE
IA after break: Art
*Tomorrow is our fieldwork to Dearfield. Students need their day packs with two snacks, sack lunch, and water bottle. The weather is supposed to be pretty warm, so you may want to have your child apply sunscreen before he or she comes to school tomorrow. Also, I would recommend having sunglasses and a hat, to block the sun. There really isn't any shade in Dearfield. Please let me know if you have any questions.
*Since we will be gone tomorrow, we won't have our regular library time. However, library books will still be due tomorrow. We will have library on Wednesday morning, after All School Meeting.
*Boot Camp is this Friday! Our time to be outside is from 9:15-11:15, with a picnic lunch (which students need to bring) from 11:15-11:45. Feel free to join us for all or any of this time. If you have questions, please let me know. The food drive will end on Friday, however, the fundraiser continues until October 24th.
Reader's Workshop
It will be so important to keep reading over break. Please make sure your child reads 20-30 minutes, every day. Again, this can be reading to themselves, reading to someone, being read to, or any combination of those options. If you would like some suggestions for books to get at the public library, please send me an email.
Writer's Workshop
We are revising and editing our Personal Narratives. I was hoping to have all of them published before Fall Break, but with anything that needs good craftsmanship, this is taking longer than expected. Be looking for more information about a sharing day after break. I can't wait for you to hear the childrens' stories! They're wonderful!
Math
Also over break, please continue to help your child memorize his or her basic addition and subtraction math facts. We learned a fun game, called Name That Number. This can be played with a regular deck of cards. Ask your child to teach you how to play it. This is a good, fun way to practice addition and subtraction.
Expedition
The purpose of learning about Dearfield, Colorado, is to go in depth with the meaning of community. After break, students will learn exactly why we're studying a ghost town. It goes much deeper than just learning why this community didn't survive.
